We have included answers to the most common questions which people who are starting out in the sport of hillwalking usually ask. If you would like more information then send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. How fit do I need to be to go on a walk?
A. This is the most often asked question. A reasonable to good level of fitness is required for an introductory hike which may last over 4 hours. Have a look at our gallery to get an idea of some of our more strenuous walk locations. The speed of the walk is always governed by the slowest walker and rest stops are taken as much as is necessary. Also we have different levels of walks for the different fitness levels.
Q. What if I cannot continue?
A. There is usually a sweeper (Support Leader) on each walk who can turn back with a walker who may be struggling.
Q. How does a walking day unfold?
A. We leave from Copley street at 8.45 am from where we travel to our coffee stop, close to the start of the walk. The walk can last from 4 to 7 hours and on return we go to a restaurant for a meal before returning home later that evening.
Q. What should I bring?
A. Your walking gear and a packed lunch is essential. You will find a full list here.
Q What else should I bring?
A. Besides walking gear and a packed lunch you should bring a change of clothes and a towel in case you get wet. Keep these in the car you are travelling in. You can change out of your walking gear at the end of the walk.
Q. What if I don't drive?
A.If you are new let let us know you need a lift when you are signing in. We will do our best to arrange a lift for you. Also as you get to know other members you can arrange car pooling with them. If you take a lift from another member then please contribute €10 towards their fuel costs.
Q. What costs are there on a walk.
A. We collect €2 from each member to provide your Walk Leader(s) with a meal at the end of the day and to cover the cost of maps and equipment for the club. Its our way of appreciating the effort and responsibility they take in planning, organising, leading and navigating your walk.
Q. What else do you do as a group?
A. We have a strong emphasis on the social aspect of things and regularly organise social nights out where you can get to know more members. We also spend weekends away as well as trips abroad. We have qualified Rock climbing and Kayak instructors in the club and we organise these activities during the summer.
Q. Who has joined the club?
